We build the bonds of our brotherhood by
sharing our prayer and ministry, our joys, hopes, & fears. Central to
our community life and mission is praying together daily, gathered
around the word of God present in creation, in Scripture, and in each
other. We share with one another something of what the day has held for
us, allowing the word of God to shed light and energise us. In this way
we try to help each other to reflect on our experiences, to find the
presence of God in our everyday life & work, and to respond ever more
faithfully—as individuals and as community—to God’s will.
Pondering God’s word, we respond in a simple way of life characterised
by joy, love, and hope. This simplicity finds expression in the way we
do everything. Poor in spirit & in fact, we manifest by the simplicity
of our lives our solidarity with the poor.
Mindful that God intends the earth and its fullness to be for the use of
all people, we avoid every form of compromise with social injustice. We
seek to analyse critically the unjust structures of our world and to
discern ways of promoting freedom and justice for all.
It is in daily living that the challenge of community life manifests
itself. We grow as persons as we gradually come to accept the difficult
task of living for others, and as we become aware of our gifts and
limitations in our human interactions. In a prayerful, discerning manner
we allow our lives to be judged by the word of God so that we can speak
the truth to one another in love.
Each of us accepts personal responsibility for growth into maturity as a
Christian Brother. We exercise personal responsibility in actively
seeking opportunities for personal spiritual and ministerial
development.
Celibacy does not start with perfection and later become eroded by
faults and weakness. Instead it is something each of us has to grow
into, channelling our sexuality—our energy for relationships—into love
that is warm, genuine, and responsible.
Relying on the help of God and the support of a compassionate and
trustful community of brothers, we accept the cross inherent in living
our consecration. We also value our bonds with our families, and the
wonderful gift of friendship.
In living our consecration, we look to the example and protection of
Mary, that flower of the Jewish people and our very first Christian, who
was called to make visible God dwelling among us in love.
We strive to live a balanced life - rooted in God, based in community,
focused on mission, connected to family and friends, and strengthened by
personal growth and recreational activities.
